An introduction in traveling based on local experts and adventure stories. Finally a magazine that isn't trying to push me towards expensive tours and all-expenses paid getaways. Have you heard of AFAR magazine? This will become your one and only source for travel destination advice. The Collaborative Travel Guide.
I first discovered this magazine from my world traveling mother. She told me about this publication and described it as being much different from the other travel mags out there. I wanted something that would point me toward local encounters, natural places and hidden gems of a country. So, when my birthday came around, I asked my brother for a gift subscription. I was not disappointed. This magazine is my take-to-the-beach, take-on-the-plane, keep-in-the-living-room-not-lost-in-the-bathroom type of publication.
Not only is the magazine a keeper, but their website is engaging and interactive. Upload your own "highlights" from your trips, tell your story behind the photos and enter for a chance to win vacations or be published in the magazine. Not to mention that you're taking part in why this publication is so different - you become the travel guide. You tell others about why they should visit your favorite location, or your hometown, or your favorite local pub.
No, I do not work for this magazine and I don't receive anything by promoting it. I'm just seriously excited about reading it. And I know you will be too! I've met some awesome people from AFAR media on my recent trip to San Francisco. I love supporting a publication with such down-to-earth folks working to make a difference in how we travel and see the world.
If you need any advice on your stay in Puerto Rico, check me out as your Local Expert. Click my badge in the right sidebar and it will take you to my profile on AFAR.com . You can see my own trips, my favorite spots in Puerto Rico (generally all outdoor fun, like waterfalls, diving, hiking, coffee farms, etc) or ask me questions about where to go and what to see on this beautiful Caribbean island.
Thanks for letting me share about my favorite travel magazine. The publication has really changed the way I plan my trips and I'm so grateful for their growing online community. So check it out and let me know what you think!
Until tomorrow,

This looks amazing! I think I'm convinced to ask for an early Christmas present!
